Your day involves helping elderly or disabled clients with bathing, dressing, meals, and medication reminders. You'll monitor their health, keep basic records, and provide emotional support and companionship. The work is physically demanding — expect to be on your feet for most of your shift, assist with mobility, and handle personal hygiene care with dignity and patience. Most caregivers in this area work 8- to 12-hour shifts, sometimes including overnight stays. No formal qualification is required to start, but a basic first aid certificate and a caring personality go a long way. With experience, you can progress to a senior carer or team leader role, or pursue an NQF Level 2 or 3 qualification in Home and Community Based Care to increase your earning potential.
